Old American Golf Club Top Five In Golfweek's 2013 'State-By-State' Rankings

Tripp Davis, Justin Leonard collaboration again rated best course in Metroplex

(THE COLONY, Texas) - Old American Golf Club - a pure golf experience from award-winning architect Tripp Davis and PGA TOUR player Justin Leonard - is No. 5 in Golfweek's 2013 "State-by-State" rankings.

The rankings include daily-fee, semi-private and resort courses, making Old American the highest-rated golf experience in the Metroplex. The classically-wrought layout debuted at No. 7 two years ago and was named "Best New" by Golfweek in 2010.

"We are excited and honored to be recognized by Golfweek, a magazine with a mission to deliver meaningful content to serious golfers everywhere," says Mike McCabe, general manager. "Tripp and Justin have created a return to strategic golf and shot-making that resonates with players who truly appreciate the game's purity."

Old American is wrought along the shore of Lake Lewisville just 20 minutes north of DFW International Airport. Inspired by the 'Golden Age' of golf course architecture - a period of excellence between 1911 and 1937 -- it also garnered "best new" recognition from GOLF Magazine, and LINKS. Naturally formed bunkers, organic green complexes and a variety of native grasses combine to create holes leveraging varying wind conditions.

The course is a regular stop for PGA TOUR professionals in DFW. Nathan Green, winner of the 2009 RBC Canadian Open, holds the course record. Green fired a 4-under-par 67 in February, 2012, breaking the previous record of 68 held by Leonard and K.J. Choi. Other pros who have played Old American include Y.E. Yang, Rod Pampling, John Senden, Steven Bowditch, and Paul Stankowski.
